Poodles - Poodles - General Information

Poodles are known for their amiable personality, elegant appearance and intelligence. The breed is calm for the most part though likes getting a lot of exercise and is easy to train. In fact, the Poodle is one of the most friendly and smart animals humanity knows. It has a square steady build, dense curly or corded coat that can be of various colors ranging from blue, gray and brown to apricot and white. The tail is short, set well on. The gait is light stressing an air of distinction around the dog.

Europe knew the dog under different names. The French called it the Mouton, Caniche or Grand Barbet whereas the English named it the Water Dog. The word "Poodle" seems to have originated from a German word "pudel" meaning "to splash." The reason for this very choice is obvious. Though it is considered to have a mixture of qualities bred in such countries as Russia and France, the Poodle of today inherited features most peculiar to German species. Good hunting instincts, retrieving abilities, and appealing eye-catching appearance of Poodles were priorities.
