Poodles can experience a wide variety of eye problems. For instance, Progressive Retinal Atrophy is a rather common problem in Poodles. This disease worsens, as the dog grows older. PRA causes can result in total blindness of the dog. Iris atrophy is also a progressive type of disease. There is no cure for both of these eye diseases. Before buying a Poodle, make sure the parents and the puppies have been tested for inherited illnesses.

Entropion is an eyelash problem common in many breeds, including Poodles. All sizes of Poodles are prone to excessive tearing, which is called epiphora. If the Poodle develops this condition, it is necessary to have it checked out by the veterinarian to figure out the reasons and prescribe the remedy.

Von Willebrand's Disease is a bleeding disorder that can cause problems with the proteins in platelets. The disease is dangerous because the owner may not be aware of the problem until the surgery is needed.

Standard Poodles can suffer from malformation and laxity of hip socket and femoral head, which is called hip dysplasia.

Epilepsy, gastric torsion, deafness and patellar luxation are reported to be one of the possible diseases found in Poodles. There are absolutely healthy Poodles and there are Poodles with some of the above-mentioned diseases. Like with any other dog breed, potential owners of Poodles should be careful choosing a breeder.
